Hey – don’t forget to sign up for Summer Reading Club at your local library! Even if you have a baby or a very young child, you can still sign them up. It would be a fun activity for you and your little(s) to do together this summer: visit the library, check out books, read every day for at least 20 minutes (doesn’t have to be all at one time – very littles may not have that type of attention span), and then track your time. There are typically prizes and coupons available if you complete your reading sheet!
Also, check this out – book stores are offering summer reading programs to keep kids reading this summer. How awesome! Earn free books or vouchers to spend on books…lookie:
Half Price Books “Feed Your Brain” Summer Reading Program: read 15 minutes/day through the months of June and July, and once you’ve reached 300 minutes turn in your sheet for HPB Bookworm Bucks to use toward a new book! Click here.
Barnes and Noble Summer Reading: print the PDF on their site (four pages, 1st 2 in English, 2nd 2 in Spanish), log the books and write a short review, earn a free book! Last day to turn it in is September 3, 2013. Click here.
Have fun with books this summer:
- There are lots of ways to find free books. Do you have a “Little Free Library” in your neighborhood? Maybe you want to start one. If you take the kids to Columbus Commons this summer, look at their outdoor Reading Room and take a free Highlights or book home.
- Deeply discounted books can be found at Half Price Books and also the Village Bookstore.
- Do local bookstore tour and visit these awesome places: The Book Loft in German Village, Cover to Cover in Clintonville, Fundamentals in Delaware.
- Check out story time someplace other than the library, like Barnes and Noble, Cover to Cover, or Stratford Ecological Center (2nd Tuesday of the month and Stratford has a small fee of $5 to participate).
