Thanks to all of you who tuned into my appearance on Fox 28′s Good Day Columbus! Here are the family fun activities I talked about for October, as follows:
All Hallows’ Eve at the Ohio Village: October 13 and 20 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $12/adult, $9/children 6 – 12, and 5 and under are free. Spooky stories by the bonfire, pumpkin carving, creepy characters like the village gravedigger and lost souls like Krazy Kate plus 19th-century-style entertainment including fortune telling, crafts, games and more! 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. The Legend of Sleepy Hallow will be read, and the Headless Horseman may make an appearance! So, if your kids get spooked easily, don’t stay for it or tell them he might ride through. When I went I didn’t see a child get scared, but all kids are different.
Freeman’s Farm Fall Festival: weekends until October 28. Saturdays 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sundays 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. Great for families with really little children because activities are close together. Hayrides, making scarecrows, petting zoo, kettle corn, picking pumpkins – fun afternoon! Pay by activity, no admission.
Leed’s Farm Fall Festival: weekends until October 28. Saturdays 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sundays 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Admission is $8/adult and $10 kids 3 – 18, 2 and under are free. I think of Leeds as a farm amusement park – full of fun activities such as a zip line, tunnel slides, “Banana Boat” rides, hay barn, huge pumpkin trampoline, picking pumpkins and the list goes on… They serve food such as hot dogs, chips, and such, but I have generally brought our lunches and then got a piece of pie to share.
The Intergalactic Nemesis Book One: Target Earth at the Wexner Center for the Arts: Friday, October 12 at 7 p.m. Actors bring a graphic novel to life in front of a live audience. Suitable for children ages 7 and up. $18/adults $10 kids 18 and under.
Columbus Commons Movie Night showing Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone: Saturday, October 20 at 6 p.m. Watch a family favorite outside on the lawn at the Columbus Commons – like a drive-in movie without your car. Throw down chairs or blankets, and bring popcorn and a thermos full of hot cider. Oh, and extra blankets because October nights get chilly!
